Bricklaying, an experiment

I ended up with four layers, 22 bricks a layer. All hauled up the hill without a wheel barrow as well as a 40 lb. bag of mortar and later a 60 lb. bag of mortar. I had a little trowel and a bucket, a gallon of water, a wire brush, rubber gloves, no spacers though. After a full day and an hour chasing around looking for another bag of mortar, it's complete. I'm waiting for the mortar to dry. It seems sturdy. It's not level nor are the bricks even. And if you think the brick chisel will give you a straight edge to cut with, think again. Ack! So I have some overhand on one corner. I have compost to go in it to fill it. Currently have bricks holding down at the corners of the heavy plastic that will line the bottom. Ultimately, I'd like nine of these in the back yard to grow food in. One at a time. Because of the walnut tree, growing food in the back was not possible. Now its down, I'm up for it.
