There are times where you feel like you are getting no where in a hurry. It's good to count small victories. A week without rain (but mild temperatures), has me out in the garden again. The weeds in the front yard are intimidating and embarrassing. I'm hoping with a little effort to pull them and see what I really have underneath. The skirret needs to be tamed. But there will be compost for next year! Always a win.

What actually got done: I got a shower in this morning before the crazy day started. Small victories. Dishes were washed. The home healthcare people descended upon us, the nurse and the speech therapist at the same time. There will be six weeks of daily interruptions like this. It's necessary. Afterwards, the garden got watered with the leaky hose. I got a little wet. I found a second baby pumpkin on a vine. Awe! I also have late season or second crop potatoes to harvest. The last grow bag just had tiny potatoes in it. These make great seed potatoes for next year. Rather than storing them and having vines take over the basement, I decided to plant them. The feel of the soil in my hands was compact. I added sand and some coconut coir to loosen the soil a bit. It wasn't clay, but rain will also cause compaction. Grass clippings and other easy to breakdown compost was added. I also tossed in some eggshells. It has all winter to decompose. There were plenty of earthworms in evidence. I left the squash to ripen.

The little spuds were planted around the outside edge. There are still amaranth volunteers growing in the bed. The birds will eat the seed over winter. Storms knocked the stalks over. With any luck, I hope the bed will look this good next year. The potatoes know when to grow and won't be taking over my storage room, growing prematurely because the house is warm.

I have avocado pits and skins cooking in the dye bath. The linen yarn is being dyed. I am hoping for one skein of orange and another of blue with iron. We'll see. The dye bath isn't very saturated with color. I may need to eat more avocados in my diet. Meaning that I may not have started with enough pits/skins.
Orders have to be processed and the car unloaded from last weekend's show. The neighbor's roofers did not show up today. I'm thankful it's quiet. Yesterday was a zoo with cars everywhere, double parked. Now, back to work.
