2021 May Have Ended
31 Dec 2021 05:25 pmbut the work on the yard/garden/farm continues. From my video, the Japanese maple is dying. I took out another large branch today. I am afraid the remaining dead branch will crack and fall on someone. It held the weight of the branch I cut today. That means I didn't have to cut two at once. As it was, I spent an hour and 45 minutes working the yard. I had to chop up branches and dead wood. The twigs got added to the Mandela beds as chop and drop. Chronographia was cutting yesterday. I don't know what exactly. I had to chop hers cuttings smaller. It was green wood. Six sizable pieces of dead wood that can be burned were added to the woodpile. The large limb was hauled up to the garage.
I also trimmed the lemon balm way back to give the sage a chance to grow. I moved some retaining wall stones that had been used as stepping stones. They went back on the wall. Two river stones are on the front porch to add to the garden next year as stepping stones.
I lugged a couple of bags of sawdust out of the car. I covered the area where the stones had been with one bag of sawdust. Chrono had a hard time navigating with those stones. The stones got covered with creeping Charlie. You had no idea what you were walking on; it was so uneven and the stones wobbled. I defined the edge of the blueberries a little better.
I remembered a bucket of daffodils I'd dug up in June. They were still alive. I split them up and added them along the slate walkway between the two halves of the front garden. I dug out some crabgrass and some garlic chives. Then I covered that area with the second bag of sawdust. Masks are useful around the house too. I spread the sawdust around. It started getting dark so I quit for the night. It's hard to find your tools in the dark. It's currently 51 degrees. It will rain tonight around 10 pm.
With a little luck, I hope the daffodils will look like this in spring.
