Too many shows, too close together. Not enough time in between to recoup. I worked on the cinderblock bed a little this week. Strawberries need to get moved into it for the winter. I don't have enough time, money or yarn to do all the dye baths I need to. It makes me sad. I got a fantastic location at SAFF and want to have an absolutely complete display. Meanwhile, I am doing the best I can. I did two dyebaths today. I'm skeining yarn for displays. I only have one more set of sock yarn but I need two for cochineal pink and Onion skins/goldenrod/marigold autumn gold. The super bulky wool boucle only has two shades of purple and a cochineal pink. I'll need a blue-gray logwood, onion skins, madder and a mossy green plus more undyed to make a set. Then I move on to a licorice twist yarn that candy stripes. Problem is I need months to get the displays complete. I have a single day. Some walnut brown would also be nice but there is no time to forage.
Missing some colors in the Display

The temperature dips after tomorrow. Welcome to Fall! I have so much yardwork to do. I braved the mosquitoes yesterday to finish the cinderblock bed. I must have broke every fingernail. I left the second bed alone because there is a lone baby zucchini that can still be harvested. I need to haul more cinderblocks up the hill. There is still time to work on that section. It's the harvesting dye materials that cannot wait. I picked tarragon yesterday. I think it'll just go in with the lemon balm. They are very similar in color. Oregano needs to be harvested too. More importantly, I need to harvest basil for food. I should be running the food dehydrator. Something killed my tomato vines. The tomatoes are fine but the vines are dead, just in one section. Weird. The volunteer yellow tomato has kicked out a full gallon of fruit, plus contributed to several Caprese salads. Not bad for a weed. I feel guilty for just sitting here typing when I should be working.
Super Bulky Boucle

The quince tree started dropping fruit. Two so far. Two more visible on the tree. There are still heirloom purple cherokees in the backyard, starting to get ripe. The cover on the garage garden has made a world of difference. Nothing bothered my lettuce. Radishes or another cabbage family variety are coming up. I also planted mizuna and arugula which look the same. Some of the spinach on the front porch survived. Constant travel is the bane of a healthy garden. No one to tend things while I'm gone. I head out to Shenandoah Valley Fiber Fest on Friday. My husband had two doctor appts this week which didn't help me but at least his problems are being addressed. It's a start. He has more follow up testing that needs to be scheduled.
Now to check on the cochineal and start moving some strawberries into a winter bed. With luck I'll get a cover cut to keep the deer out. They love those strawberry plants. Hope to catch you soon, either online or at a fiber show!
