Yup, Plant It and They Will Come
29 Aug 2025 04:07 pmGround Hog on the back porch
Doe in the black raspberries after she grabbed an apple.
Fawn in the garden pathway. Either eating an ear of corn or my strawberry plants.
Garter snake under the juniper bush sunning itself.
Tiny praying mantis in the snapdragons.
Monarchs in the Mexican Sunflowers.
Squirrel on the porch, planting sunflower seed in my potted plants.
Somewhere, probably a drainpipe, there is a toad.
Yinz already know about the skunks.
Yes, it is time to root the strawberry runners. Thanks guys for the reminder. We are in the midst of a tomato avalanche. The cool weather reminded the tomatoes they are short on time. Climate change and our wobbling polar air will make an appearance through Sept 10th. I have one orange tree in the front hall but need to rearrange the living room to accommodate 2 trees for the winter. The turmeric has been moved inside. I went around picking basil today in case we lose it early. I still bet we see 90 at least once more before frost. My average frost date is October 15th.
I have my list of things to do this weekend. Chrono has a show. I have yarn to dye. Yesterday I managed to extract the dye from the oregano on an open fire. Tomorrow I need to mordant the yarn and strain the dye. If there is time, I'll cook the dyebath with the yarn. That will yield 2 pounds of cotton dyed brown.
While that's cooking, I need to harvest tansy for another dyebath. Busy like a squirrel.
