Square is back up again. I'll be doing a spot check later to make sure what is on the site is what I have in stock. Items for sale have already been inventoried. Items that are raw materials have not all been weighed. I'm closing in on the end of it. Bins of undyed yarn are getting weighed. I'm down to the Inca cotton and 16/4 linen.

I've decided to bring a lot of my hand dyed 10/2 cotton and undyed yarns to Gulf Wars. People may be taking a class and get excited about doing natural dyeing at home. I also am bringing some cones of yarn for loom warp. I have a 3/2 cotton and some kid loop mohair as well as some discontinued lambswool, which is soft but not strong.

Gulf Wars is paid for. Yay! Now I'm working on gas money to get there. Pre-orders for delivery at GW are welcome as is regular ordering on the website https://www.ursulas-alcove.com

If you are more comfortable with Etsy, PM me there to inquire about putting items you want onto Etsy's site.

With regards to Etsy, I am not sure how I feel about them using my fees to buy superbowl ads. Ultimately you, the consumer, are paying for it. They hired Drew Barrymore to be their spokesperson. Drew intentionally disregarded the Hollywood writers strike and tried to continue her TV show with scabs. Having her as a spokesperson leaves me queasy. With Square having problems and Etsy overcharging, there is little choice in the larger networks to sell in. One of my suppliers does not allow third party sites like eBay, Amazon, or Etsy. So, I have other constraints on some of the products I offer. I am working with a union of crafters to explore alternative sites. This is hard since not everything I sell is totally handmade.

I have lodged complaints with Square. The problems I've encountered are:
1. The algorithm not charging sales tax for items I have marked as taxable.
2. Square allowed items that were removed from sale six months prior to be sold even though they were no longer on the website.

The response I got is that in 6 months time, the company will be further merging the online feature with the square in-person app. They hope it will correct the problem. Otherwise, they wish me luck. My fear is that it screws up Pennsic sales. I will be bringing the old fashioned backup to Pennsic this year, paper and pencil. Gwen will also be there with a different system entirely. We'll be able to work something out. The basic problem arises when they (Square, Paypal, etc) buy third party software and don't integrate it properly. They all keep offering more features but don't fix the bugs that have arisen. Welcome to the brave new world of AI.
